None of the descriptions that I have seen
of Japanse troops in action in ’37, none of these crushes in the streets described by people eye witnesses come up to the scale of a massacre. So I’d say so-called Nanjing Massacre by Japanse troops had never occurred. It’s a strong statement which my colleagues and friends here in Tokyo may deplore, they regret it. The fact is there’s not such thing as a massacre as far as I’m concerned. According to what I have read, there was sporadic violence here and there in the city. This Nanjing Massacre idea needs more exploration. It was certainly propaganda of KMT government, most certainly. | |
